Trance and Progressive House - Artists C - D
Listed on this page are various trance / progressive house singles and 12"s listed in alphabetical order (indexed by the first letter of the artists name). When I first started writing this site I grouped singles and 12"s together in this fashion as a fast means of cataloging tracks. These pages are now being slowly dissolved, with each individual artist and producer featuring on their own individual page, although this is taking some time to complete. In the mean time use the A - Z link bar below to skip to other pages on these A-Z pages. Please note that a full A-Z list of artists and producers featuring on this site can be found here.

12": Cape 4 - Africa[GOFO0063-6]
Released 6/00 on Go For It! Records. Written and produced by Head, Helios & Rees. Lyrics by Kurtulan. The words "oh dear" and "nauseating" spring to mind. One to avoid.
| |||
12": Cassidy - Amulet/Totality[INT002]
Released 12/99 on Intrinsic Records. Written and produced by Cassidy. Best of the two is Totality, which is a long building trancer with a quirky charm about it. Intermingled with breakbeat sections this track really works well and is a real favourite of mine at the moment. Amulet steps the gear up, although for me its ruined by a really cheesy vocal in the midtrack breakdown - if you don't mind vocals then this will probably appeal more to you. Once past the breakdown Amulet really lets lose and flys home.

12": Chant - Sweet Images (DJ Tools Vol.2)[7243 895827 6 5]
Released 5/99 on Virgin Schallplatten GMBH. Written by Marco Dalle Luche & Annalisa Attianese and produced by Marco Dalle Luche. Lead vocals by Maggy Mangraviti. This is a blissed out trance gem; the use of Gaelic sounding vocals is spine tingling and the steel drum chorus and bagpipes in the Kay Cee Remix whisks you to far away tropical islands - magnificent! The other remixes are also worthy of a listen, especially the Der Dritte Raum Remix.

CD Single: Chant - Sweet Images[7243 895826 2 8 / VGP 232]
Released 5/99 on Virgin Schallplatten GMBH. Written by Marco Dalle Luche & Annalisa Attianese and produced by Marco Dalle Luche. Lead vocals by Maggy Mangraviti. The CD version of this unmissable single thankfully keeps the Kay Cee remix (see above), and adds an extra Club Mix that will appeal to the mainstream. Sky Vox is simply the uplifting vocal over a beatless ambient soundscape.

12": Control Freaks - Subspace Interference[PC9808-6]
Released '98 on Planetary Consciousness. Written and produced by P.W.Bervoets, M.B. de Goeij and T. Verwest. Additional production on the Jan Driver Remix by Jan Driver & Formaldehyde. This is the original release of 'Subspace Interference' (re-released in '99 with DJ Tiësto). The Original Mix is a top notch uplifting trancer, whilst the Jan Driver Remix is rather minimal (similar to the Blu Peter & Sal Mix on the '99 re-release).

12": C.M - Dream Universe[HOOJ68 / HOOJ68R]
Released '98 on Hooj Choons as 2x12" and CD single. Written and produced by Marino Stephano and Crisci Mauro. The 'Original Mix' was an Ibiza classic, of which Martin Freeland (Man With No Name) converted into an amicable hard trancer. I'm not overly keen on the DJ Taucher remix, which has a rather lengthy experimental intro - consequently the track takes ages to get going. These 3 mixes fade into oblivion though when compared to the storming remix by Tilt, which supersedes the original by miles and is fast becoming one of my all time favourite tracks.

CDS: C.M - Dream Universe[HOOJ68CD]
Released 1998 on Hooj Choons as 2x12" and CD single. Written and produced by Marino Stephano and Crisci Mauro. See above for review. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
| |||
CD Single: C.M - Dream Universe[Py940 / 568263-2]
Released '97 on Kingsize. Licensed from Fog Arena. Written and produced by Marino Stephano and Crisci Mauro.

12": CRW - I Feel Love[VCRT63]
Released 3/2000 on Nukleuz Records/VC Recordings. Written by A. Remondini and M. Picotto. Executive producer Gianfranco Bortolotti. Produced by Mauro Picotto. The DJ Isaac Remix and the Mauro Picotto Extended Mix are both quite commercial sounding trance cuts that are to some degree vocal based. However, what made me pick this one up was the DJ JamX & De Leon Remix which dubs the vocal resulting in a less commercial vibe and all in all a quality track.
| |||
CDS: CRW - I Feel Love[VRCD63]
Released 2000 on VC Recordings. The DJ JamX and De Leon Remix remains tops, while the Pete Pritchard Mix is also of
quality. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
| |||
12": Cyberstorm - Our Energy Remixes[WASH0176]
Released 12/99 on Wash Records. Written and produced by Mike Davis, DJ RII and Mike Fraser. The Dumdonde remix is an excellent pounding, slightly hard-edged trancer with an uplifting driving melody - great stuff. The synthesised spoken vocals sound very 80's, but that can be ignored! The Plastic Angel remix has a similar driving beat but loses the uplifting charge, and pales against the Dumonde remix.
| |||
12": Cyberstorm - The Secret Beach[WASH0206]
Released 5/00 on Wash Records. Written and produced by Mike Davis, DJ RII and Mike Fraser. Dissapointing outing from Cyberstorm and Wash Records - not much to write home about here.
| |||
12": Dave Devil - Mind Opening[EVENOVA007]
Released 4/00 on Eve Nova Records. Written and produced by Andrea Doria and Dave Devil. Cover art on the way. Head straight for the Original Mix mix on this 12", which is a tuneful little number that sort of reminds me of Jean Michel Jarre. Over on the flip the Piero Zeta Remix is a techno pounder with annoying sirens, and the Andrea Doria Remix is more diverse and experimental, with chirps and bleeps that sound more like early EatStatic.
| |||
12": Deepsky - Stargazer EP[FRA015/FRA016]
Released 12/99 on Fragrant Records (USA). Written and produced by J. Scott & Jason Blum (www.deepsky.co.uk). The X-Cabs is the better of the two mixes, with a pounding driving beat that builds subtly and really takes off when the melody kicks in. The Deepsky Retroactive mix is much harder and more acidic, with lots of buzz/electric guitar sounds - the charm created by X-Cabs is lost. However, if you like fast acid style trance then this mix is for you. On the other 12" the mixes are more progressive/breakbeat orientated - not really my vibe but they are quality remixes.
| |||
12": Deniro - State of Mind[HK039]
Released 6/99 on Hook Recordings. Minimal info about this quality slice of progressive house released on the ever-reliable Hook label. The title track is a driving cut of deep progressive house, whilst over on the flip side 'Deepsky' takes a lighter angle featuring the occasional sublime female vocal sample. Both tracks are worth a look-in.
| |||
12": Denki Groove - Niji (The Remixes)[SILVER016]
Released 1/1999 on Silver Planet Recordings. Written by Takkyu Ishino and produced by Denki Groove. Originally released 4/99 on MFS Records [CD : MFS 7084-3 ; 12" : MFS 7084-0]. Another Paul Van Dyk classic remix gets a re-release following his superb Vorsprung Dyk Technik Remix album; needless to say that its the PVD Pot of Gold Remix that shines out here.
| |||
12": DJ Eyal - Dreamcatcher[PP027]
Released 5/00 on Phatt Phunk Records. Written and produced by DJ Eyal. Additional remix and production by Dave Ralph, James Robson and Sean O'Niel. This is an good melodic trancer, with the surbly titled Tea Freaks Milk & Two Sugars Mix being the better of the two mixes. Makes for a good filler.
| |||
12": DJ Fog - Sweet Sugar[FOG032]
Released 8/00 on Fog Area Records. Written and produced by Peter Berghausen & Joachim Theis. This is a fantastic new trancer - uplifting and very bouncy. Both cuts are very good, with the Pitman Remix taking the edge by producing a mix with an bit of bite. Superb.
| |||
12": DJ Manta - Holding On[ALIEN006 / ALIEN010]
Released 7/99 on Alien Recordings (Holland). Written by Mcluskey & DJ Manta. 'Dig-It' written by DJ Manta. Produced by DJ Manta. A superb slice of progressive house featuring an uplifting spiralling melody with emphasis on female vocals. The Liquid Mix doesn't vary much from the Hypnotic Mix apart from being much shorter, whilst the Reversed Twister Remix is essentially a dubbed version. Dig It sounds a little more commercial sounding and is again heavy on the female vocals; not quite as good as the title track but does feature a rather cute steel guitar melody. On the second 12" the best mixes are found. The Lange remix is pretty average and predictable, whilst Armin Buuren steals the show with his superb remix.
| |||
CDS: DJ Manta - Holding On[CDAMPM 125]
Released 1999 on AM:PM. Written by Mcluskey & DJ Manta. 'Dig-It' written by DJ Manta. Produced by DJ Manta. This is CD #1 of a two CD set. For whatever reason, the Armin Van Buuren mix is called 'Rising High' instead of 'Rising Star' on this CDS. See above for review. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

CD Single: DJ Mind X - Nightingale[INT8879962]
Released '99 on Intercord Records (GmbH Germany). Liscensed from Overdose Productions. Written and produced by Andre Forrer and Torsten Stenzel. Apparently this track has also been liscensed to the UK based Additive Record label and will be released in the UK sometime in the near future. A very commercial sounding trancer from Germany, co-written by Torsten Stenzel (see DJ Taucher) with vocals by Janet Taylor (from DJ Sakin). The Airplay Mix is simply a radio edit and if anything is the chessiest track on the single. The Tandu Remix/Tandu Radio Cut keeps part of the vocals (although there is a significant reduction in vocal content) and hence the commercial theme, but the underlying trance vibe is strong and hence this remix would go down well in mainstream clubland. The Suspicious Remix beefs the beats up and essentially dubs the vocal, eventually building into a driving trancer that i'd consider playing. This just leaves the Pulsedriver Remix which is a fairly average remix. So, if you like cheesey vocal trance then don't miss the Tandu remix of 'Nightingale' - otherwise you may want to skip this one.

CD Single: DJ Panda - It's a Dream '98[OXA8016-8]
Released '98 on OXA (Germany). Produced by DJ Panda (A. Palumbo). This is another superb trancer from Germany. The Explora Rmx features uplifting piano melodies, a pumping bass line and a really sublime deep voiced male spoken sample of "It's a Dream". The Realogic Rmx doesn't diverse from this formula a great deal, leaving just the Mega Dream Mix which has a slightly harder edge to the track and is less anthemic - still a darn good track though. Another must for the list. (Still available through CDNow).
| |||
CD Single: DJ Panda - Listen[OXA8004-8]
Released '98 on Oxa (Germany). Written and produced by DJ Panda. Also available is Listen Part2 featuring the Mega Mix by DJ Panda. The Extended Original version of this track kicks off in true style and potentially could be an astounding track. However, it features a really naff sample that sounds like its been speeded by a factor of 10; either that or its the Smurfs. The bulk of the track is a superb uplifting trancer, but that sample just keeps cutting in and ruining the track. The Energized Original Version of 'Listen' is much of the same, although this time round the naff speeded up sample only creeps in once (once too many times though!) and has an additional interesting mid-track breakdown sample that I can only describe as opera! It's different, but does work quite well. Finally, the rather misleading Drum Bass Version (which doesn't feature any drum and bass beats and is actually pure trance) ditches the naff vocal leaving a rather plain and simple dubbed version. (Available through CDNow).
| |||
CD Single: DJ Panda - Listen Pt II[OXA8005-8]
Released '98 on Oxa (Germany). Written and produced by DJ Panda. I was hoping the mixes on the second part of this single would be better than the first part; how wrong I was. Very little of interest here apart from the Megamix, which features 'Listen', 'It's a Dream', 'My Dimension', 'Dreaming of Fantasy' and 'True Life'. (Available through CDNow)
| |||
12": DJ Paola & DJ Choci - Souls of the Tribes[TET057-12]
Released '99 on Tetsuo/Music Reasearch GmbH (Germany). Written and produced by DJ Choci. Engineered by Andy Allder. Hard trance from the London duo Choci and Paola.
| |||
12": DJ Tiësto - Sparkles[BLH113-5]
Released 11/99 on Black Hole Recordings. Written and produced by DJ Tiësto and Cor Fijneman. Additional remix and production on track 1 by Johan Gielen and Sven Maes. A rather average trancey affair from Mr Tiësto - best mix of the three is the Magikal Remake. DJ Tiësto also records under the names of: Gouryella & Vimana with Ferry Corsten, Kamaya Painters with Benno de Goeij (who is Rank 1 together with Piet Bervoets), Alibi and Major Leauge with Armin van Buuren, and finally Allure.
| |||
CDS: DJ Tiesto - Sparkles[BHCDM 1135]
Released 2000 on Black Hole Recordings.
| |||
12": DJ Tiësto Present Control Freaks - Subspace Interference[XSF001]
Re-released 12/99 on XSF Recordings. Written and produced by P.W.Bervoets, M.B. de Goeij and T. Verwest. The Original Mix is a top notch uplifting trancer, whilst the Blu Peter & Sal Mix is rather plain and lacks direction. Originally released in 1998 on Planetary Consciousness
12": DJ Tiësto - The Magik Tales EP Vol.2[PC9806]
Released '98 on Planetary Consciousness. Tracks 1 & 2 written and composed by T. Verwest & Storm Van's Gravesande; track 3 by T. Verwest; track 4 by T. Verwest & C. Fijneman.
| |||
CD Single/12": DJ Tom Stevens vs Fridge - Outface 2000[ABC004CD / IDJ 1T / GOLTD 2002]
CD single released 11/99 on Alphabet City GmbH. Written by Ralph Fritsch and Delf Hastik. Produced by DJ Tom Stevens, Lac Terra, Stephan Deutsch, Ralph Fritsch and Detlef Hastik. Also released on 12" on Xtra Nova Records (Belgium) and Go For it! (Germany). This is a superb track from DJ Tom Stevens and Fridge. The German CD single on ALphabet City featues a magnificent range of mixes that will suit differing dancefloors. My pick of the bunch is the Lac Terra Remix, which ditches the anoying "Motherfu***r" samplw and sticks to the full-on pumping trance. Banging and a must!
| |||
12": Dropzone - Terminate[STIM002]
Released 6/99 on Stimulant Records. Written and produced by P. Nineham. A dance rendition of the Terminator sound track which doesn't really work well in a club environment.
| |||
12": Dum Dum - One Earth Beat ('97 Remixes)
Released in 1997 on Whoop! Records. The Outdare's Dumb + Dumber remix is a very uplifting fab progressive-house/trance crossover track. It isn't very fast, in fact, it plods along at a pace your granny will be able to keep up with. However, it's got that cheeky combination of bouncy baseline, compulsory feel good piano chords and driving melody that will keep dancefloors alight. The Qattara Remix is slightly harder and faster, although it loses the bouncy feel and isn't anywhere near as good as the Outdare's Dumb + Dumber remix.
| |||
CD Single: Dumonde - See the Light[74321 674902]
Released 1999 on BMG Ariola München GmBH (Germany). Written and composed by Jürgen Mutschall, Dominik De Leon and Rene Dumont. Vocals by Evil-"It's a Dream"-Iris. Produced by DJ JamX & De Leon. Tracks 4 & 5 remixed and produced by Cyrus Sadeghi-Wafa and Guido Gronwald. This hard edged trancer is not to be missed; head straight for the Original Mix where an effective female spoken vocal adds to a pounding bass line. Hit the mid track breakdown and in cuts a powerful, anthemic synth line. Awesome. The other mixes get progressively harder, with only the DJ JamX & De Leon really hitting the mark. Also released on the Whiplash label in Germany, and due for release in the UK in May/June 2000 on the Nubula label with new mixes from Mauro Picotto and Mr Spring.

12": Dutch Force - Deadline[TFERN27]
Released 4/00 on Inferno Records. Liscensed from Smash Trax (a division of Smash Recordings). Written and produced by M.B. de Goeij. Lyrics and vocals Karin Nagi. Additional remix and production on track 2 by Durango 95 and Larry Lush.
