Trance and Progressive House - Artists A - B

Listed on this page are various trance / progressive house singles and 12"s listed in alphabetical order (indexed by the first letter of the artists name). When I first started writing this site I grouped singles and 12"s together in this fashion as a fast means of cataloging tracks. These pages are now being slowly dissolved, with each individual artist and producer featuring on their own individual page, although this is taking some time to complete. In the mean time use the A - Z link bar below to skip to other pages on these A-Z pages. Please note that a full A-Z list of artists and producers featuring on this site can be found here.

12": Agent Orange - Electronic Vibes

[XLTD0001]
Agent Orange - Electronic Vibes

Track Listing:

  1. Electronic Vibes - T.B.R Club Mix (7.38)
  2. Silver Voice (6.54)
  3. Electronic Vibes - Original Club Mix (6.47)

Released 2/2000 on X-IT Records GmbH. Written & produced by Micheal Schug, Oliver Schulz & Florian Fischhaber. This is essentially T.B.R under a different name, the givaway being 'Siver Voice' that is essentially a remake of their superb 'Trancewave'.

12": Albion - Air (Remixes)

[TM001]
Albion - Air (Remixes)

Track Listing:

  1. Air - Open Air Remix
  2. Air - Oliver Lieb Remix
  3. Air - Original Mix

Released 4/00 on Twisted Minds Recordings. Written and produced by Ferry Corsten for Dance Therapy Productions. Addional remix on track 1 by Ferry Corsten and on track 2 by Oliver Lieb. Ferry Corsten has produced a new remix (the Open Air Remix) of 'Air' which is much deeper than the Original Mix (released on in '98 together with the Oliver Lieb Remix). However, the original mix of this classic trancer still remains superior. Further remixes of this track are set to be released on Platipus Records in May/June 2000.

CD Single / 12": Alice Deejay - Better of Alone

[12TIV113]
Alice Deejay - Better of Alone

Track Listing:

  1. Better of Alone - Original Vocal Club Mix (6.36)
  2. Better of Alone - Signum Remix (6.21)
  3. Better of Alone - DJ Jam X & De Leon's Dumonde Mix (6.42)

Released 8/99 on Positiva Records. Written & composed by Pronti & Kalmani. Produced by DJ Jurgen, Pronti & Kalmani. An average slice of mainstream vocal trance, with an additional harder edge remix from DJ Jam X & De Leon that's worth a listen.

12": Altura - Seven Candles

[SFB004]
Altura - Seven Candles

Track Listing:

  1. Seven Candles - Mix 1
  2. Seven Candles - Mix 2

Released '99 on Steel Fish Blue Records. Written and produced by Alex Whitcombe & Mike Marshall. Two rather average hard-edged trancers - nothing original to write home about.

Track Listing:

  1. Blade Runner - Kai Tracid Short Mix (3.50)
  2. Blade Runner - Tandu Short Mix (3.42)
  3. Blade Runner - Original Short Mix (3.10)
  4. Blade Runner - Kai Tracid Remix (7.37)

12": Aquarius - We Can Make it

[VOND 17]
Aquarius

Track Listing:

  1. Original mix
  2. Burger Queens Big Dumper mix

The original mix is very cheesy and housey, with elements of 70's funk lending to the cheddary theme. However, it's the Burger Queens Big Dumper mix (great title!) that hits home with added bounce over the original mix with a more percussive baseline, although keeping with a cheesy 70's samples and vocals.

12": Aquilla - Sensation

[HOCUS002]
Aquilla - Sensation

Track Listing:

  1. Sensation
  2. Sensation

Released 1/99 on Hocus Records - and that's about as much information as I've got on this 12", since the label is not what I'd call "informative"!. However, one of the two mixes features a very haunting female chant/sample from the early 90's single 'Only You' by Praise (vocals are by Miriam Stockley), which were also later used on an early Banco-de-Gaia track called 'Tempra'. Apart from that its an average slice of progressive house.

12": Aquilla - Dreamstate

[AM17198]
Aquilia - Dreamstate

Track Listing:

  1. Dreamstate - Aquilla's Original Mix
  2. Dreamstate - Oliver Lieb's LSG Remix

White label release 8/99 on Triple X Records. Written and produced by Aquilla.

12": Armin - Communication

[CR033]
Armin - Communications

Track Listing:

  1. Communication - Original Mix
  2. Communication - Vincent de Moor Remix

Released 8/99 on Cyber Records. Written & produced by Armin van Buuren. Both cuts of this track are superb hands-in-the-air trancers with potential anthem status. Wonderful driving melodies over pumping baselines add to soothing piano melodies - sheer quality! This makes up for the rather disappointing 'Blue Fear' on Xtravaganza Recordings.

CDS: Armin - Communication

[BIG CDM 013]
Armin - Communication CDS

Track Listing:

  1. Communication - Radio Edit
  2. Communication - Radio Edit (Instrumental)
  3. Communication - Original 12" Version
  4. Communication - Vincent de Moor Remix
  5. Communication - Quake Remix
  6. Communication - Jon Vesta Remix

Released 2000 on Big Star Records. All the mixes here do the job very nicely. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

CD Single/12": Ascension - Someone

[BLU011CD1/BLU011CD2/BLU011T]
 Ascension - Someone

Track Listing:

CD 1:
  1. Someone - Thrillseekers Radio Edit (3.48)
  2. Someone - Thrillseekers Remix (6.56)
  3. Someone - Original Vocal Mix (8.56)
CD 2:
  1. Someone - Thrillseekers Radio Edit (3.48)
  2. Someone - Binary Finary Remix (7.18)
  3. Someone - Slackers Rolling Mix (8.16)
12":
  1. Someone - Binary Finary Remix (7.18)
  2. Someone - Thrillseekers Remix (6.56)

Released 7/00 on Code Blue. Written and produced by R. Simmonds and S. Jones. Lead vocals by Joanna Law. Backing vocals by Kate Cameron. Produced by Stephen Jones. This is a wonderful slice of vocal progressive house that was first released back in 1997 on Perfecto Records with remixes from Slacker and the Space Brothers. The Original Vocal Mix and Slackers Rolling Mix are the same as what featured on the '97 release, both of which still sound as fresh as a daisy. The two new remixes from Binary Finary and the Thrillseekers are both good, although neither are very adventurous in that they don't break away from the set format of the original mix. If you missed this the first time around then this is an essential purchase.

CD Single/12": Atlantis vs Avatar - Fiji

[CDFERN34]
Atlantis vs Avatar - Fiji

Track Listing:

  1. Fiji - Lange Radio Edit (3.32)
  2. Fiji - Original Mix (7.55)
  3. Fiji - Lange Remix (8.28)

Released 11/00 on Inferno Records. Written and produced by G. MacCormack, S. Goldenberg, G. Winkworth, L. Horton and P. Kershaw. Vocals by Miriam Stockley. Additional remix and production on tracks 1 & 3 by Lange. This is a great trance track which Lange has done a superb job of remixing. It features the unmistakable haunting vocal sample (by Miriam Stockley) from the early 90's track 'Only You' by Praise, which featured in the Fiet Tempra TV advert. Haunting, powerful, and banging - good stuff.

12": Atlantis (Forever) - Neurofun

[SUB005P]
Atlantis - Neurofun

Track Listing:

  1. Neurofun - Neurotic Dub
  2. Voyager II

Released 9/99 on Subterrania Recordings. Written by George Winkworth. Produced by George Winkworth, Lloyd Horton and Paul Kershaw.

12": Bedrock - Heaven Scent

[BED1 / BEDRT001 / BEDRT001R]
 Bedrock - Heaven Scent

Track Listing:

Promo [BED1]:
  1. Heaven Scent
  2. Life Line
12" One [BEDRT001]:
  1. Heaven Scent - Original Mix
  2. Heaven Scent - Evolution Dub Mix
12" Two [BEDRT001R]:
  1. Life Line - Original Mix
  2. Heaven Scent - Evolution Main Mix

Promo released 8/99 (white label). Official release 10/99 on Bedrock Music Ltd. Written & produced by John Digweed and Nick Muir. Bedrock are back with two lengthy progressive house gems. 'Heaven Scent' is what everybody is talking about, but in my humblest of opinions it should be the flipside track 'Life Line' that should be getting all the attention. Simple, yet superb.

CDS: Bedrock - Heaven Scent

[BEDRCDS 001]
 Bedrock - Heaven Scent

Track Listing:

  1. Heaven Scent - Original Mix (10.28)
  2. Heaven Scent - Evolution Dub Mix (9.01)

Released 1999 on Vital Records. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Benno - Freefall

[KARMA 1009=5]
Benno - Freefall

Track Listing:

  1. Freefall
  2. Close Your Eyes
  3. Morning Star
  4. X-Pansions

Released 11/98 on Karma Records. Written and produced by B. de Goeij. 'Freefall' is a classic uplifting trancer that's i'd not been aware off until I heard it on a compilation recently. Thankfully Juno Records still have it in stock. The other three tracks are also quality, although they pale against the strength of the title track. This one really bounces along - wicked.

12"/CD Single: Binary Finary - 1998

[AQUACDS16]
Binary Finary - 1998

Track Listing:

  1. 1998 - Radio Edit
  2. 1998 - Paul Van Dyk Remix
  3. 1998 - Binary Finary Classic Mix

A '98 release on Aquarius Records. Paul Van Dyk wips this storming track into a huge progressive trance monster - very typical PvD sounding and no doubt will be a huge hit on the dance floor - don't miss this one! Binary Finary first released the PvD mix of 1998 as a 12" earlier in the year with a B-side track titled About Time. Then, after much canning by the big name jocks, it got this formal release on Aquarius.

12" / CD: Binary Finary - 1998

[POSIT M114387]
Binary Finary - 1998

Track Listing:

  1. 1998 - Binary Finary Mix (5:24)
  2. 1998 - Paul Van Dyk Remix (7:10)
  3. 1998 - Matt Darey Remix (7:15)

And 1998 was also released on Positiva, featuring a further two mixes. The PvD Remix remains the firm favourite though.

CDS: Binary Finary - 1998

Binary Finary - 1998 CDS

Track Listing:

  1. 1998 - Radio Edit (3.25)
  2. 1998 - Original Mix (8.31)
  3. 1998 - Paul Van Dyk Remix (9.49)

Released 1998 on Orbit Records. The Paul Van Dyk Remix is still the best track in the set. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

CD Single / 12": Binary Finary - 1999

CDTIV-118:
  1. 1999 - Gouryella Remix (7.06)
  2. 1999 - Kaycee Radio Edit (3.08)
  3. Cryogen
CDTIVS-118:
  1. 1999 - Kaycee Remix (5.51)
  2. 1998 - Matt Darey Remix (6.42)
  3. 1998 - Paul Van Dyk Remix (7:10)

Released 8/99 on Positiva Records. Written by Matt Laws. Produced by Binary Finary & Nuw Idol.

12": Binary Finary - 2000

[DMDORBIT040]
Binary Finary - 2000

Track Listing:

  1. 2000 - Jam X & Dumond's Remix (8.45)
  2. 1998 - Gouryella Remix (7.05)

Released 1/00 on Orbit Records. Written and produced by Binary Finary. Yes, its just more remixes of 1998 - it looks as if this one just won't go away. Actually, the Gouryella Remix is very good and is well worth picking this 12" up for, whilst the Jam X & Dumond's Remix doesn't make any headway on the Pvd remix from 1998.

CDS: Binary Finary - 2000

[8 96657 2]
Binary Finary - 2000 CDS

Track Listing:

  1. 2000 - DJ JamX and Du Monde's Millenium Radio Cut (3.08)
  2. 2000 - DJ JamX and Du Monde's Millenium Mix (8.44)
  3. 2000 - Gouryella Remix (7.02)
  4. 2000 - Original Mix (8.43)

Released 2000 on Orbit Records. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Blank & Jones - Cream

[DVNT31X / DVNT31XR]
Blank & Jones - Cream

Track Listing:

DVNT31X:
  1. Cream - Long Version (7.19)
  2. Cream - Paul van Dyk Mix (8.15)
DVNT31XR:
  1. Cream - ATB Mix (6.12)
  2. Cream - Evolution Mix (8.29)

Released 6/99 on Deviant. Licensed from Kontor Records. Written & produced by Piet Blank, Jaspa Jones and Andy Kaufhold. Whilst the 'Long Version' of this track is a magnificent slice of pumping progressive house its shadowed by the 'Paul van Dyk Mix', whom takes it one step further, creating a corking trancer that sounds very similar to his remix of Binary Finary's 1998. Big guitars, huge riffs, driving rhythms = PvD at his best. On the second 12" Andre "9pm Til I Come" Tanneberger provides a delicious trancey mix that will hit home on the melodic trance floor.

CD Single: Blank & Jones - DJ Culture

[ORCDM53689]
Blank & Jones - DJ Culture

Track Listing:

  1. DJ Culture - New Short Cut (3.10)
  2. DJ Culture - Short (3.06)
  3. DJ Culture - New Club Mix (8.28)
  4. DJ Culture - KayCee Remix (7.44)
  5. DJ Culture - Remix (7.19)
  6. DJ Culture - Thomas Schumacher Remix (6.30)

Released 2000 on Orange Records. Licensed from Kontor Records. Written & produced by Piet Blank, Jaspa Jones and Andy Kaufhold. Words on track 1 by Dieter Meier of Yello. A string of rather lame singles followed after 'Cream' and it looked as if Blank & Jones were destined to live in the shadow of their 1999 anthem. However, i'm glad to say that DJ Culture is a mighty fine trance number - not quite in the same league as 'Cream', but nontheless a cracking tune. The 'New Club Mix', 'KayCee Remix' and the rather briefly titled 'Remix' are all along the same lines and don't vary much from one another, whilst the Thomas Schumacher Remix is a deep and dark techno tinged version. I'm not sure when this gets it official UK release, but it deserves to be big.

12": Blond L - The Voice

[SFB008]
Blond L - The Voice

Track Listing:

  1. The Voice

Released 9/99 on Steelfish Records. Written and produced by Alex Whitcombe and Mike Mukhopadhyay. Another winner from Steelfish and the man behind Qattara. This single sided, mid-paced trance gem is fuelled with a wonderful female vocal sung in what I expect is Latin, hence sounding a little like something out of Enigma and also like the vocal from FSOL's 'Papua New Guinea' (or your local cathedral!). Original and powerful - don't miss.

12": Body - Shock

[BRUK09]
Body - Shock

Track Listing:

  1. Full Moon (8.56)
  2. Sleepless (9.12)

Released 4/00 on Bonzai Records UK. Written and produced by L-Vee & DJ Ghost. 'Sleepless' is a pounding, slow to build trancer with eerie undertones with an overall dark feel. However, 'Full Moon' is a superb 303 crammed belter that really takes off in anthemic style after the midtrack breakdown.
