12": The Rogue Element - Calm[EXEC47]
Released 2005 on Exceptional Records. Written and produced by The Rogue Element. 'Calm' is one tune that's featuring heavily on my play list at the moment. Ragga style vocals (we're told to 'Calm Down', a subtle anti-war message, although this isn't the usual political ranting that features in rap music) add to beefy breaks 'n beats and a seriously infectious chorus that will light up dance floors. On the flip 'Rouge One' keeps with the breaks 'n beats, slows down the pace and introduces Lyrikool Lips, whose MC'ing features heavily on this track. There's a definite old skool feel to this tune! Essential.

CD: The Rogue Element - Rogue Rock[EXLPCD0507]
Released 2005 on Exceptional Records. Written and produced by The Rogue Element. Albums of this quality don't come around often! 'Rogue Rock', the debut album from The Rogue Element is a fantastic excursion into breaks and breathes some welcome life into a genre of music that has of late become somewhat stretched and worn thin. There's a little something for everybody on this album, bridging the gap between commercial and underground, and ranging from full-on breaks to deep & chilled. Personal favourites include the ruff rudeboy tones of the ragga tinged 'Calm', the foot to the floor 'Fused' and the electro twisted 'You Know that Sound'. Wicked stuff.
