Released 2001 on Realworld Records. Produced by Neil Sparkes and Count Dubulah. This one requires a short history lesson. Ex-Transglobal Underground members Neil Sparkes and Count Dubulah formed Temple of Sound as a Qawwali project (Qawwali music from Pakistan is the sound of devotional Sufism) following experiencing the vocal genius of the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at the Reading WOMAD festival. Turn forward the clock a few years and Real World prompt a fine piece of match making, pairing Temple of Sound with Rizwan and Muazzam Ali Khan, Qawwali singers and actual grand-nephews of Nusrat himself. The result is Peoples Colony No.1, a fresh and exciting album based on the Qawwali singing of Rizwan & Muazzam and backed by the urban beats of Sparkes & Dubulah.
