Promotional release 11/02. Written and produced by Paul Savery. This three track promo CD features what must be surely only the beginnings of a big new name on the global dance scene. Although the influence of the likes of Banco-de-Gaia is obvious, Paul more than adequately produces a montage of fresh and exciting sounds and ideas that make these tracks unique to him. 'Transcendia' takes you on a gentle stomp through India, whilst 'Eigth Paradise' is a Eastern chillout classic in the making, having already featured as a Whirl-Y-Gig parachute track. 'Bedrock' is the most dance orientated track of the three and whilst it has a lesser degree of Eastern association, it still maintains a global theme. Definitely one to watch out for. Thanks to Paul Savery for this CD.

Released 12/04. All tracks written and produced by Paul Savery. This latest five track EP from Temple Hedz sees their music taken to new levels, with a massive leap in the overall production quality. Also, these new tracks have been written as a band, featuring Ian Clifford on drums and Liz Thomas on vocals, both of whom are a welcome addition to the group. The EP kicks off with 'We're in this Together', an uplifting & upbeat number that spans continents with its influences, from African choruses to traditional Indian strings and Turkish horns, all woven together with funky electronica. The net effect is very positive and smile inducing. 'It's Bendy' is another up tempo track, although as the title hints, it's a tangential change of direction from the previous track. Distorting and warped fx dominate in this short darkish affair, demonstrating another side of Temple Hedz's multiple personalities. The next two tracks are tunes that Temple Hedz have massively re-worked since their early incantations a couple of years ago. Both the Europa Mix of 'Eighth Paradise' and the Sunrise Instrumental mix of 'Tashi' are deeply atmospheric and ethereal, having metamorphosed from their 'chilled caterpillar with potential' status to their full blown 'cool butterfly' status that they are today. They were played live as parachute tracks at the Whirl-Y-Gig New Years Eve Live Extravaganza 2004 and provided a perfectly chilled climax to the event. Finally, the short Sunrise Interlude mix of 'Tashi' is a clear indication of Pauls background in music, bearing an uncanny resemblance in style and sound to Shpongle. Not that there's anything wrong with that - if anything this is proof that anything they can do, Temple Hedz can do it better. This CD is definitely worth getting hold of - as these tracks are currently unlicensed you can only get the EP directly from Temple Hedz themselves. See their web site for details.

Promo release 2006 on Kickstart Recordings. Written and produced by Paul Savery. 'Wake Up and Salute' kickstarts (no pun intended) this promo, diving straight into the realms of global-rock fusion with this blinding middle-eastern tinged gem. Mystical and powerful chants dominate in this melodic and relatively up-tempo and punchy breakbeat number, which is hopefully an indication of a new dance-orientated direction from Temple Hedz that we'll see more of in the future. As it stands, this is an excellent new tune and the best of a varied, yet decent bunch. 'No Blame No Shame' drops the tempo and delves into more familiar territory with the trademark Temple Hedz ambient breakbeats that we have become familiar with from previous releases. The mood also sidesteps, with a rather sombre melody played out through melancholic strings, demonstrating the deeper and moodier side to Temple Hedz. 'Here and Now' ups the tempo and progresses the lighter breakbeat sound, significantly lifting the mood and veering midtrack back into the majestical middle-eastern territory touched upon earlier, with sweeping strings and faraway hypnotic chants. This three track promo is just a taster of the Temple Hedz debut album and amicably demonstrates the diversity and maturity in the global-breaks sound that they have been developing over the last few years. One to look out for.

Released April 2007 on 2012 Music. Written and produced by Paul Savery. The debut album from Temple Hedz has been a long time coming. This could easily have been released a few years ago if they had wished to take the short route, simply by cobbling together the wealth of material previously released on the early promo EPs from years gone by. Therefore respect to Temple Hedz and their stubborn insistence that everything should be perfect, which inevitably led to ‘Between Worlds’, a corking debut comprising of the three tracks from the 2006 promo EP (revamped and renamed) and the pre-album promo EP, plus a handful of cracking new tracks. Ranging in tempo from relatively banging with the likes of ‘Wake Up to the Truth’ through to spacey chill out, as superbly demonstrated by the sublime ‘8 Division Sky Place’, a new track that has fast become a personal favourite of mine, Temple Hedz showcase the best and breadth of their material, beautifully blended together via ambient segways. Whilst the similarities still remain with the likes of Banco-de-Gaia, an artist who has over the years been hugely influential to the Temple Hedz sound, it is with ‘Between Worlds’ that we can now truly begin to see Temple Hedz own path developing in the realms of global electronica.
