12": Rodd-Y-Ler - The Artwork EP[TOPCD09]
Released 1997 on Blue Banana Recordings. Written and produced by Oliver Sasse & Nils Ruzicka. Home straight in on 'Lifesigns', which is a slightly querky slice of trance primarily based around an acid 303 riff and a rather majestic melody. But its all the analogue sounds that really give this track the edge - it really grows on you. Many thanks to Jack for introducing me to it; since then its become a regular tune on my playlist and at Whirl-Y-Gig.

CDS: Rodd-Y-Ler - Lifesigns[8 95012 2]
Released 1998 on Orbit Records. Written and produced by Oliver Sasse & Nils Ruzicka. 'Lifesigns' is an essential track for any trance collection - see above for review. On this single its still the original version that stands as the best mix, with the shorter Nurse's Alternate Solution paling in comparison.

12": Rodd-Y-Ler - Lifesigns 2002[WIRE 005-12]
Released 2002 on Re-Wire. Written and produced by Oliver Sasse & Nils Ruzicka. Additional remix and production on track 2 by Manuel Schleiss & Dennis Gertner, on track 3 by Ralf Merle, Alex Morph & Marcus Welt with vocals by Heike Taubert, and on track 4 by W.J. Henze.
My first impressions of these remixes was not overly favourable. Gone are all the phatt analogue riffs and acid sounds that made the original version so appealing, replaced by conventional synths in the case of the Vengeance and Badlands remixes, whilst the Skyrocket mix delves into experimental territory. But I have to admit that my first impressions were somewhat wide of the mark, since after a few play-throughs the Vengeance and Badlands remixes actually grew on me. I guess the key to these remixes is to treat them as new tracks rather than as a revamp of a classic favourite tune.
