Philippe Van Mullem

Belgium producer Philippe Van Mullem (aka Quadran with Phi Phi) released the first ever Bonzai Trance Progressive track back in 1994. After having hits with 'Eternally' and the follow up single 'Free Your Mind', Quadran gradually became more progressive till the day 'Unlovable' got released featuring Tasha Joan Paul.

  2. La 7ieme Note - Part 2 (9.14)

Released 4/00 on Bonzai Trance Progressive (P&C Lightning Records Belgium). Written by Philippe Van Mullem and produced by Phi-Phi & Philippe Van Mullem. This 12" is by far the best i've heard to date from PvM. Part 1 is a superb, driving progressive trancer, whilst Part 2 is a deep and spacey breakbeat laden slice of electronica. Not to be missed.

12": Philippe Van Mullem - Waiting For a Train

Philippe Van Mullem - Waiting For A Train

Track Listing:

  1. Waiting For a Train - Main Mix (5.56)
  2. Waiting For a Train - X Mix (5.00)
  3. Canopy - Main Mix (6.16)
  4. Canopy - Progress Mix (6.06)

Released 9/03 on Black (Bonzai Music). Tracks 1 & 2 written and produced by Vanda Young & Philippe Van Mullem; tracks 3 & 4 written and produced by Philippe Van Mullem. The Main Mix of 'Waiting For a Train' (which is a cover of Flash & The Pan's track of the same title) is the one to go for here. Being slightly more housey than previous PvM tracks plus the addition of the vocal, this may seem to be a departure from PvM's usual style, but that isn't a negative. Combining house beats with great spoken lyrics and sweeping strings, this track really bounces along. In comparrison, the X Mix is a much slower, deep electro version - one to strut around the dancefloor to. On the flip side, 'Canopy' delves back into more familiar PVM territory, i.e. quality progressive trance. Both mixes are excellent, although it's the Progress Mix that's the one to go for here, where a deep, delicious & funky bass-line grooves to the beat for the first half of the track. Following a short, melodic and spacey breakdown the track really lifts and lets its hair down, even if it is for a short two minute burst - shame this track isn't around the usual ten minute length that we've come to expect from PVM!
