DJ Orkidea
DJ Orkidea has been one of Finland's and Scandinavia's leading trance and progressive DJs for over ten years. He has played in all of Finlands major clubs and more recently at Cream, Renaissance, Gatecrasher, Global Underground. The Prodigy have also used Orkidea on their tours to Finland. Today he holds residencies and runs his own club nights including Unity, Jack and Sun and the Renaissance events in Helsinki.
Orkidea's recording career started with 'Unity' which was released in 1999 by London based Steelfish Records. 'Unity' was immediately in Top 10 of such legendary DJs as Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Seaman & DJ Tiesto and was also included on Renaissance and Gatecrasher compilations. Both Sasha and Paul Oakenfold used 'Unity' as the opening track for their BBC1 Essential Mixes on NYE 1999 and at Homelands 2000.
After 'Unity' Orkidea has beeen busy doing remixes for such labels as Vandit and Anjuna Beats (Aalto: 'Rush'), Hooj Choons (Space Manoeuvres: 'Stage One' remix as played by Paul Oakenfold on BBC), Perfecto (Jan Johnston: 'Flesh'), Nettwerk (DJ Tiesto: 'Flight 643') and major labels like BMG, Warner and Sony (for example Bomfunk MCs and The Doors).
Early 2001 saw also first release of Unity Records, a label run and owned by Club Unity and Orkidea. The first release was Slusnik Luna's 'Sun' which eventually made it to British Singles Chart Top 40 when released on Incentive UK. In 2004 Unity Records was re-launched with new material and remixes from Slusnik Luna, Beatpusher, Dallas Superstars and Orkidea himself.

Released 9/99 on Steel Fish blue. 'Unity' is the debut release from Orkidea, presented as a single sided 12" white label promo. It's a wonderful trancer featuring the haunting & powerful vocal from the Dead Can Dance track 'The Host of Seraphim' (from the 1991 DCD album 'Passage in Time') and was written as an end of night anthem for the club night 'Unity' @ Nylon in Helsinki.

Released 2003 on Universal. This album is all spot on, including a mix of Orkidea's past vinyl releases combined with various remixes of other artists tracks. Most of these tracks were only ever released on vinyl and are no longer available, hence this CD is an absolute must.

Released 2003 on Unity Records. Track 1 written by Tapio Hakanen and produced by Tapio Hakanen & Heikki Liimatainen. Track 2 written and produced by Peter Lowland. 'Beautiful' is probably Orkidea' best release to date - it's an uplifting anthemic number that charges and bounces along in a cheery fashion. On the flip is the tougher and moodier 'Stains' by Lowland, which delves into progressive trance territory, whilst retaining an uplifting element. Overall two essential and quite diverse tracks on offer on this quality release from Unity Records - definitely a label to keep and eye on.
