Orinoko
Orinoko is producer and remixer Timo Maas. The '97 classic 'Mama Konda' turned the heads of the likes of Sasha and Morales, reaching the top 20 in both the UK and US club charts, whilst a year later 'Vila Nova' was a huge hit on the global dancefloor.
| 12": Orinoko - Mama Konda[DAN 665461 6]
Released 1997 on Dance Pool/Sony Music Entertainment (Germany GmbH). Written and produced by T. Mass, M. Buttrich and A. Bolleston. Not quite in the same league as Vila Nova, but nonetheless a decent single featuring a recognisable chant from a Deep Forest track. Hardfloor add one of their typical acid 303 remixes which is the best of the bunch.
| CDS: Orinoko - Mama Konda[DAN 665461 2]
Released 1997 on Dance Pool Records. The High On Kilimanjaro Mix is a slow-paced, ambient version. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
| CD Single: Orinoko - Vila Nova (Oriney Yassaneiy)[DAN 666384 2]
Released 1998 on Dance Pool/Sony Music Entertainment (Germany GmbH). Written and produced by T. Mass, M. Buttrich and A. Bolleston. This is a top notch single - summer vibes ooze from the Club Mix where delicious Spanish guitar licks float over digeridoo and a pounding 4/4 trance beat, all topped off with an uplifting, catchy tribal chant of 'Oriney Yassaneiy' - superb.

12": Island[3LAN 051 / 3LAN051R] | |||||||||||||||
Released 6/01 on Lanka as 2 x 12". Written and produced by Timo Maas, Martin Buttrich and Andy Bolleshon. 'Island' is based around a female chant sample that is instantly recognisable as that used in Union Jacks 'Water Drums' (on the 1995 album 'There Will be No Armageddon'). Tribal percussion adds to a house beat, piano melody and strings sounding vaguely like early Chicane. The Alternative Dub Mix is the better of the three mixes on the first vinyl - its not as ground breaking as either Orinoko or Mama Konda, but well worthy of a play nontheless. The additional remixes on the second 12" are DJ promo only - more on these shortly.
