Lemon

Lemon is the latest signing to Ciano Records/Club Montepulciano Recordings. Putting a tangy new twist in the musical cocktail, Lemon squeeze the juice out of the freshest lounge samples, mixing them up with a 90's dance-floor sensibility. They are regulars at Club Montepulciano, which in turn is described as "London's hippest lounge club featuring live events, the best international cabaret, cocktails, roulette, romance, moonlight and martinis....".

The stronger of the three is Adventures in Stereo, which now features on the Whirl-Y-Waves Vol.2 compilation. It follows close behind Montepulciano's 'Ola Chica' in terms of dairy factor - but that's what we love about it. The other two tracks are equally as fun and add to the strength of this EP. Sheer quality that guarentees a smile.

Released 5/02 on Ciano Records. All tracks written and produced by Nick Hollywood/Lemon, except track 4 which contains elements of "Volver a Verte" by Willy Chirino. How long have I waited for this debut long player from Club M's purveyor of audio-kitsch? As the packaging boasts, Lemon are now "100% bigger value with scientifically improved stereo-matic sound", which basically translates to "high quality cheeky lounge tunes". All the favourites from the Club M dance floor are present, including the up-tempo 'Adventures in Stereo' and 'Citron Presse' from the Lemon Fresh EP and 'Latin Lover', which was also released on Club M's Bongo Beach compilation. Of the previously unreleased tracks, part 2 of the excellent 'Mr Bongo' lives up to its counter-part, whilst 'West Pier', 'DB5' and the rather raunchy 'Does That Turn You On?' are down-tempo affairs. Over in the up-beat funky camp are 'Easy Tiger', 'El Pepinillo', 'Waldorf King Size' and 'Mission Accomplished' (yes, it's a play on Mission Impossible) - all these "new" tunes are full of the tangy citron zest that we have learned to expect from Nick Hollywood. Overall an essential purchase.
