Koru

Koru are based around Peter Watson, a London Maori-Polynesian 6 string bass player and computer alchemist, and not forgetting the winner of Kiss FM Fosters Ice Breakers Ambient (1996). Peter has several Drum 'n Bass releases and a previous history touring with John Paul Young, Acorda Povo and Taj Mahal. Singer & co writer Holly Khan has toured with Tribal Drift, and supported Dreadzone, Loop Guru and Transglobal Underground. And last but not least, Shem, the rap/MC beat mix maestro and foundation member of the Redemption Soundsystem and Stone Lion. Backed Burning Spear, Nervious Joseph and Aqua Levi. The sound of Koru is an uplifting fusion of funky, trancy, drum 'n bass and breakbeats that reflects in the Maori definition of Koru, which states "waves rushing forward and pulling back in an ever continuing spiral of energy". Produced at Dreamtime studios, London (UK), Koru Music has vibrated some of the best clubs in London (Ministry of Sound, Subterania, Whirl-Y-Gig).

Koru's Album "Spirit" is a journey through dreams, machines, exotic lands and urban streets 'n beats. It is futuristic and atmospheric, on top of drum 'n bass and deep rhythms. Similarities to Massive Attack, Dreadzone, L.T.J.Bukem, Deep Forest with a hint of the gold toothed one. The album was recorded in Dreamtime studios, Brixton, London. It opens with the track "Stargazer", inspired by the ancient Polynesian navigators who travelled vast distances using the stars for direction. "Warriors" depicts the pain and loss of battle. Close your eyes and let each track tell you it's story. The power of trance will pull you in and spin your head around, while the beats and deep bass will keep your body grounded. Tracks off Spirit have been licensed to "Lost in Space - Divas n Bass", "Avantgardisim2 - Law 'n Auder and "Atmospheric Drum and Bass Vol. 5". It's good shit!
