Junior Jack

12": Junior Jack - E Samba[PIASB107T]
Released 5/03 on Play it Again Sam [PIAS]. Written and produced by Vito "Junior Jack" Lucente. Additional remix and production on tracks 2 & 3 by Michael Gray and Jon Pearn. Pumping house basslines, a catchy Latino chorus and Brazilian beats - all the elements for a summer anthem. The best of the bunch is the JJ Original Club Mix, although its not overly DJ friendly with its very lengthy quiet intro and similar quiet midtrack breakdown. As a result i've edited this mix for use at Whirl-Y-Gig and my own DJing purposes. But that minor grumble aside, this is a top tune that will light up dance floors in true street carnival fashion. The Full Intention mixes are both deeper and less carnival orientated, suiting the more serious dancefloor.

12"/CDS: Junior Jack - E Samba[DEFTD076 / DEFTD076R / DEFTD076CDS]
Released 9/03 on Defected Records as 2 x 12" and CDS. Written and produced by Vito "Junior Jack" Lucente. Further remixes of this Latino anthem have surfaced on Defected Records, ensuring that E Samba will play on even though the summer is fading fast. The original Junior Jack mix has thankfully been re-edited making it far more DJ friendly, with a funky beat introduction added (although the quiet breakdown still holds). David Penn provides a soulful house element, chopping up the chant and adding extra percussion, whilst Rasmus Faber opts for the 70's funk-meets-Latino direction (interesting!) with additional vocals by Simone Moreno. If the additional vocals are too much for you then a shorter dub version is provided, maintaing the 70's funk element. Overall this is a much welcome package of additional remixes of what is already one of the major players of the year.
