12": Blue Amazon - Four Seasons/The Runner[Win001]
The first release on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Softley and Reid. Two superb tracks, the better of which is definitely 'The Runner', which is an ahead-of-its-time wicked progressive trancer. God only knows why neither of these tracks were included on the debut album, since they out-do any of the tracks that feature on it.

CD: Blue Amazon - The Javelin[BALP1A / BALP1C / BALP1E]
The debut album from Blue Amazon released 10/97 on Jackpot Records on CD and as a rather expensive limited edition triple vinyl. Tracks 2,3,4,5 and 7 feature the vocals of Vicky Webb, whilst Danny Campbell backs on tracks 3 and Glynn Poole backs on tracks 5 and 6 with Jay Welsh. Noticeably all of the tracks, with the exception of the very ambient 'Paradise Regime', are over the ten minute mark, which seems to be a trademark of Blue Amazon. However, this becomes a bit of a problem, since the tracks seem to take bloody ages to get going. So rather than each individual track striding off into realms of epic progressive house music, the end product is rather dreary and tiring. Don't get me wrong - all of the ingredients of there for some superb tracks, but unfortunately they're in the wrong proportions. Hence the album is too long winded for home-listening and most of the tracks unworkable for the dancefloor. Overall a disappointing album, especially when considering Blue Amazon's excellent reputation as remixers and the couple of superb 12"s that they released prior to this album.

12": Shango - Tunnelvision[WIN011]
Released in '96 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Robin Green and M. Durham. The Do the Shango Mix is the better of the two mixes - I love the mid track piano piece with the sample of Mike Oldfields 'Sentinel'. The Galloping Mix takes on a slightly harder edge with an acid 303 running throughout - superb.
| |||
12": Shango - Bodyrock[WIN015]
Released in '97 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Robin Green. Guitars on Flying V Dub by Giz Butt. Head straight for Native Mix on this 2nd 12" from Shango, which has similar beats and style to the Do the Shango Mix of 'Tunnelvision'. The The Stalker Mix has a dark experimental edge to it, with arbitrary squelches and other fx thrown in, which really isn't my style. Meanwhile, Flying V Dub is heavy on the buzz guitars and 303's.

12": Tenth Chapter - Wired[WIN004]
Written and produced by Nathen Cable and Spencer Hopkins, with vocals by Claire Pierce. Additional remix and production on The Stonk Remix by Andrew Souter and Simon Noble. The Original Mix of 'Wired' is a superb, uplifting progressive trancer, whilst the The Stonk Remix sends this track to progressive house heaven - an all round amazing piece of remix work and a corker of a track that works wonders on the dancefloor.

CD Single: Tenth Chapter - Wired[MFS 7090-3]
Released 1995 on MFS. Written and produced by Nathen Cable and Spencer Hopkins, with vocals by Claire Pierce. Additional remix and production on The Stonk Remix by Andrew Souter and Simon Noble. See above for review. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Tenth Chapter - Prologue[WIN024]
Written and produced by Nathen Cable and Spencer Hopkins. Released in '97 on Jackpot Records. Originally released in '93 on Guerilla Records. 'Prologue' isn't of the same standards as 'Wired' but The Carl Cox and Paul Van Dyk Mix isn't that far behind - it's a blinding slice of progressive house. Atlas also provides an amicable remix although I choose to ignore the cheesy Hammond organ melody.
| |||
CDS: Tenth Chapter - Prologue[GRRR 66 CD]
Released 1994 on Guerilla Music. With the exception of the ponderous Pongoed, all the tracks here are eminently listenable. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
| |||
CDS: Tenth Chapter - Prologue[CDWIN024]
Released 1997 on Jackpot Records. Both mixes of Prologue are worthy, with The Carl Cox and Paul Van Dyk Mix coming out on
top. The bonus track, Whiteland, is also excellent. Definitely worth a listen. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Fifty Fifty - Crazy Thing[WIN007]
Released 1996 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Jason Smith and Steve Trowell. This is a storming epic-progressive house fave of mine - very uplifting and works wonders on the dancefloor. Additional remix on track 3 by Paul Brogden of Seismic Records.

CD Single: Fifty Fifty - Crazy Thing[WIN007]
Released 1996 on Jackpot Records. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Fifty Fifty - Tonight...I'm Dreaming[WIN023]
Written and produced by Jason Smith and Steve Trowell. Released in '98 on Jackpot Records. The Fifty fifty Original Mix is a superb uplifting housey track with wicked vocals by Steve Trowell. Amethyst do an excellent job in converting this track unrecognisably into a mainly progressive trance track, slipping in slivers of drum 'n bass in during the breakdowns - nice.
| |||
CDS: Fifty Fifty - Tonight...I'm Dreaming[4P 1014-2]
Released 1998 on 4 Play Records. Written and produced by Jason Smith and Steve Trowell. Above and beyond what one would expect from a maxi-single! The Rubber Dub is a real nifty catch in this rare collection. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
| |||
12": The Bubble - The Bubble[WIN002]
Vocals by the Bubble and Pop Goes the Weasel. Head straight for the superb Suck Ma Bass Mix of 'Bubble' - a nice combination of fat acid synth lines and driving prog house. The Temple of Doom Mix gets a little too dark and messy for my liking.
| |||
12": Squelch - Crash[WIN0012]
Released in '97 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Danny Howells and Tim Cross. This is an all time classic progressive trancer that's not to be missed - mesmerising and hypnotising banging club tune! The Original Mix stomps all the way through, whilst the Six Remix is slower to get going, although this has the bigger finale.
| |||
12": Amethyst - The Tempest/Babel[WIN013]
Released '97 on Jackpot Records. A storming slice of hard trance from the Essex boys John Hoorocks and Lee Milleare, to follow up their smash Futura/Krakatoa, which was caned by jocks Sasha and Digweed.
| |||
Amethyst - Andalucia[WIN029]
Released 1/99 on Jackpot Records. Taken from the album 'GoldenFishFever' [CDWON006].
| |||
12: Danny Campbell - Answer My Prayer[WIN017]
Original version released in '96 on Jackpot Records. This version released in '97 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Danny Campbell, Ross and Piscitelli. Vocals by T.J Davies. The Shiva's 12" Mix is the closest I've heard Jackpot get to house music to date, which isn't a bad thing, although this is a slight shock to the system. In fact, the more I hear this, the more I like it - very 'hands in the air' with its powerful vocals. Evolution drag this track back to the trance closet, increasing the BPM tenfold in the process, although the end result is a tad mediocre.
| |||
CDS: Danny Campbell - Answer My Prayer[WIN017CD]
Released 1996 on Jackpot Records. The Mount Rushmore mix is the only difference from the 12" apart from the edits and 7". It tends more towards the pop than the other mixes which lean to the trance angle, but in a good way. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
| |||
12": Paul de Aragon - Masks[WIN020]
Released in '97 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Paul de Aragon. Taken from the album 'Transmissions One'. The title track is a pretty average slice of trance, but its over on the flip where 'Ritual' saves this 12" from the second hand bin - worth getting this 12" for this track alone. Although very simple, 'Ritual' is very effective and no doubt will work well on the dancefloor. 'Saturn' is another one of those ambient experimental vinyl fillers - urg. Click here for Paul de Aragon's official web site which features Real Audio and MP3 files of Paul's work.

12": Drum Club - You Make Me Feel So Good[WIN018]
Released in '97 on Jackpot Records. Written and produced by Lol Hammond and Charlie Hall. One of Drum Clubs classic tracks has had a 1997 polish and re-release as part of the Jackpot Records revamp of the Guerrilla Records back-catalogue. Blue Amazon provide a fab mix which stomps along with a massive climax at the end of the track, whilst the Drum Club mixes (tracks 2 & 3) are a little on the diverse side, especially The Project mix - then again, when weren't Drum Club diverse? This track will feature on the forthcoming album 'Jackpot Presents Guerrilla'.

CDS: Drum Club - You Make Me Feel So Good[CDWIN018]
Released 1997 on Jackpot Records. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": React 2 Rhythm - Intoxication[WIN014 / WIN14R]
Another Guerrilla remix and re-release by Jackpot. Bedrock provide a pretty decent 97 revamp of this golden oldie (originally released back in 91/92 on Guerrilla records [GRRR32]). The Lionrock Hoe Down Mix still remains my favourite mix of this track though, as its a old favourite at Whirl-Y-Gig.
| |||
12": Jackpot Presents Guerilla - Lmt. Ed. Sampler[WIN022]
Released in '97 on Jackpot Records. This is the limited edition sampler taken from the album 'Jackpot Presents Guerrilla'.
| |||
Album: Jackpot Presents Guerrilla[CDW0N004]
Released '97 on Jackpot Records.
