| 12": Atlas - Compass Error [LTDPFT 007D1 / LTDPFT007D2] | |
| Tracklisting:
LTDPFT 007D1:
|
Released 2002 on Plastica Red / RIP Records as 2x12". Written and produced by Tony Newland and Dennis Wheatley. Originally released in 1994 on Pandephonium Records. Fluke return the remix favours as offered by Atlas way back in 1995 on Fluke's Bullet single. First I have to say that I have not heard the original track yet, so my review is solely based on my interpretations of the remixes. Fluke brings us a deep rolling progressive trance remix, much in vein of their own 'Slap It' (which was released in 2001), and will probably do a good job on the dancefloor. The track builds and builds, but sadly never bursts, which 'slap it' did! In my opinion, it's still one of their better remix-jobs though. The Menace remix is a slightly harder remix, using a stomp-beat, and also falls under same category. It also makes a lot more use of the Ethnic female vocal, which happens to be the same vocal used in Leftfield's 'Song of Life' (from their 1995 'Leftism' album)! Thanks to Jesse Keller for this review and information.

| Banco-de-Gaia - Obsidian [657036 5034-2] | |
| Tracklisting:
|
Released 11/99 in the US on Six Degrees Records in CD single and 12" format. Written by Toby Marks & Jennifer Folker. Vocals by Jennifer Folker. Additional remix and production on track 2 by Fluke, on track 3 by The Light vs. PFN and on track 4 by Slinky Kink Productions. The original version of Obsidian features on the album Igizeh, and is Banco-de-Gaia's first attempt of a commercial style track with vocals. Fluke deliver a deep and dark techno style mix, keeping some of the vocals although they are somewhat hard to pick out from the thick beats; this is an excellent remix, in that it doesn't sound anything like the original, although I don't think Banco fans or Fluke fans alike with think much of this hard dance track. The Light vs PFN follow in Fluke footsteps and toughen up the beats even further. This single is becoming less apealing by the minute. Slinky Kink Productions step on the throttle and increase the BPM considerably, producing a fast trancey remix with minimal vocal content, whilst using looping samples from the vocals to great effect. Overall its the Slinky Kinks remix that works the best, although i'm left feeling that this is a weak single thats aimed at the harder dance floors rather than typical Banco-de-Gaia fans.

| Bjork - Big Time Sensuality [132 TP 7 CD1] | |
| Tracklisting:
|
The first Bjork single that Fluke remixed is 1993's Big Time Sensuality, which is just one of six or seven CD singles of the track (all containing different combinations of mixes and remixes). Joining Fluke with the remixes is LionRocker Justin Robertson. Released in 1993 on One Little Indian Records. For more info on the other Bjork titles see the unofficial Bjork Discography.

The second of the three Bjork CD singles to feature Fluke remixes. This is one of two discs, the other featuring the original Bjork mixes. Released in 1994 on One Little Indian Records.

| Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes [FGTH4CD / FGTH4T] | |
| Tracklisting:
CD Single:
|
As with the Bjork CD singles, the Two Tribes CD single (1994) has a number of variations. This one with these Fluke mixes, I believe is only one of several. It's one fantastic remix, though. Tracks 1, 3, and 5 are remixed by Fluke. Thanks to Jesse Keller for the vinyl information, who adds that "the Fluke Moulimix is the best remix of the whole lot. It's kinda dubby and has only a few samples of the vocals fade in and out throughout the song."

Horse - Celebrate [GASPT 11 / GASXD 11] |
|
|
Tracklisting: 12" [GASPT 11]:
|
This is a very cheesy house/trance little number, which Fluke have whipped up into quite a catchy tune. The original track Celebrate is taken from the LP God's Home Movie.

|
|
The Impossibles - Delphis [DEL CD 1] |
|
|
Tracklisting:
|
This tune is pretty mellow, almost new age, and the Fluke contribution isn't all that spectacular, but it's adequate.

| JC-001 - Never Again [ANX1012CD/4509-92167-2] | |
![]() | Tracklisting:
|
Released in 1993 on Anxious Records Ltd. The third track is the Fluke one. While the original track is vaguely rap-ish, it's kinda catchy and the music behind it is very Fluke-ish to begin with. Fluke dub most of the lyrics for a pleasant remix of what is already a nice tune.

Disc 1:
|
Released 7/99 on Blue Room. Written and produced by Ben Watkins and Steve Stevens. Features an edit by the 'Scourage of the Earth' (the latest incarnation of the KLF's Jimmy Cauty) and a remix by Fluke. This is a superb single - lots of Spanish guitars (courtesy of Steve himself) in this Balearic style trancer. The Juno Reactor mix is the better of the mixes, although Fluke and Man with no Name deliver amicable remixes.
|
Khaled [BARCLAY 579 063-1]
![]() | Tracklisting:
|
Released in 1995 on Barclay Records. Khaled's Kebou simmmers thanks to a startling re-jig from the electric pioneers and Bjork collaborators Fluke. The Fluke mix also features on the excellent Going Global compilation. The 132 BPM by Fluke is also pretty good, although i'm not overly keen on the X-Pensive mix (remixed by DJ Manu and Master Lexi). Note that the track listing on the vinyl and the sleeve lists the X-Pensive mix on Side-B, which is wrong, since it is the Fluke mix on the B-Side.

| Little Axe - Ride On (Fight On) [WIRED 28] | |
![]() | Tracklisting: CD Single:
|
Little Axe was the alias of Skip McDonald, a blues performer whose list of credits also included work on some of rap music's most influential records. Little Axe debuted in 1994 with the single Ride On (Fight On); the album The Wolf That House Built was released later in the year to wide acclaim. Another Sinful Day followed in 1995, with Slow Fuse appearing in 1996. This single is very African oriented, although the whole CD is mediocre, where even the Fluke remix (track 3) is uninspiring compared to the original mix. The vinyl also features an additional Fluke remix, Fluke Mid-Fi Surprise Instrumental. This is basically the same mix as the Fluke Mid-Fi Surprise, the only difference is that there are no (main) vocals in it, with only the choir at the end remaining intact. Apparently there also is a lo-fi surprise mix.

| Mellow - Paris (Sous La Neige) [2377-3] | |
![]() | Tracklisting:
|
Released 2000 on Atmospheriques. Addional remix and production on track 2 by Dr. Syntax for Fluke Productions. This is a great remix from Fluke in yet another guise. It took me over a year to spot that this was actually Fluke (confirmed by the presence of Julian Nugents name amongst the credits - Julian is currently Flukes management). The vocal is taken from the original version and run through a filter giving it that electronic voice sound, similar to the old Fluke track 'Electric Guitar'. The rest of the track is very bouncy and not a million miles away from how Fluke sounded back in the Six Wheels era. Apparently there is a Dr Syntax Instrumental Remix on the vinyl release.

Released 2000 on Atmospheriques. Notice the difference in the remix length of the Dr. Syntax Vox remix compared to the CD-Single version. The 12” Vox Remix is a slightly edited version of the CD-Single remix. Also, the Motacade remix is also an edit, but this is clearly printed on the cover, unlike the Syntax Remix. Thanks to Jesse Keller for this information.

This New Order cd single is, I think, like the Bjork CD singles, in that there are several versions. This one specifically has Fluke and nothing else apart from the album mix.

| 12": Rairbirds - Need More Now [310TP12] | |
![]() | Tracklisting:
|
Released 2003 on One Little Indian. Rairbirds treat us to a nice progressive house tune which has some great moments, like the awesome bassline and when the piano kicks in (creating a wonderful atmosphere) but ultimately fails to deliver the goods, due to the cheesy irritating vocals and the fact that there are just a few too many breaks to keep the track rolling. Fluke, on the other hand, have enough experience to know how to handle such things, and turn this into a fast progressive, dancefloor orientated house remix with some excellent breaks, distorted vocals, heavy phasing and lots of echo. This track is so much better than the original.
Thanks to Jesse Keller for this information.

Released 1998 on Motor/DBX Records/Urban Records. This is a German release and has a 7th track which acts as an interactive CD-ROM. There is an Italian release of this CD with othere remixes including another Fluke track (Fluke Instrumental Eclipse), but it's extremely difficult to get a hold of. In all, the song and mixes are very commercial sounding and not altogether thrilling. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

The group that made this single, based solely on the original work of theirs on here, is awful. At least Fluke completely remixed this track, the result of which is typical Fluke, i.e. awesome. Released in 1994.

![]() | Tracklisting:

Signed Sealed Delivered Vol. 2 is the second in a three CD set celebrating Virgin's 21st Anniversary (very cute). The first CD reflects alternative music, this second one reflects pop(?), and the third reflects popular contemporary. This CD is barely tolerable for most Fluke-folk because almost all the other songs are rap. Fluke doesn't even really belong here, but it's a great tune, which is a hybrid track of Groovy Feeling and Electric Guitar!!

War Babies was released in May '98 on EMI Records and is taken from Simple Minds album "Neapolis". In all honesty, Fluke deliver a rather lame effort here, and probably would have been better to remix the title track itself - shame.

Talk Talk - Life's What You Make It [12RX 6264]
![]() | Tracklisting:

Released in July 1990 on Parlophone/EMI. This was the second 12" of this track when it was re-released. Both remixes can also be found on the Talk Talk History Revisited CD [CDP-7-95965-2], which is a collection of Talk Talk's tracks all remixed by other artists. It's actually pretty cool and mellow, with the other tracks just as Fluke-ish as the Fluke remix itself. The interesting thing about the Talk Talk remixes is that the group hated ALL of them, including the Fluke remixes. The record company was getting tired of their new music and put these out without consulting them - resulting in a big legal battle.

This is a full CD collecting the b-sides and rarities from Tears For Fears. Released 1998 on Promotone/Virgin. The Fluke edit is only available on the ‘Out of Control’ promo cd-s, I’ve never seen it on something else (it’s not on the promo 7” or 12” for example). It’s a good edit though; fast, sometimes a bit rough around the edges but ultimately it’s like a good rollercoaster ride, and that’s exactly how this track feels! Thanks to Jesse Keller for this information.

This is a surprisingly good CD. I'd never heard of Hotei until this and it's quite fancy stuff, guitar-themed hard tech. The Moloko mix of "They Spy You" is especially catchy. The Fluke remix is pretty good, the dub better than the remix, but it never gets off the ground. It builds up like it's going to bust out all over in an "Atom Bomb" kind of way, but it never does. Rats.

This is one of my favorite Fluke remixes. Its full of summer vibes - very uplifting and bouncy...ohh lahlah! World of Twist were a Manchester based quirky retro electronic pop band, who formed in 1985. 'She's a Rainbow', written originally by the Rolling Stones, was remixed by Fluke for this single. The vinyl release also features the other Fluke remix, titled 'Left Hand Blue Mix'.
