Promo release 01/01 on Virgin Records. This promo CD came in a soft plastic sleave with a solitary paper insert which folds over the CD. Each track has heavy vocals from Mr. Fugler. Overall there is almost an updated progressive Oto sound to it with the flavor of the tracks somewhere between 'Bullet' and 'Bermuda'. Thanks to James Perman for this information. This was a demo put out just prior to their departure from Virgin Records, which became the foundation for the new album 'Puppy' which was released on One Little Indian in August 2003.

Album : Progressive History X
[CIRCD37]
|
|
Release date 23rd July 2001 on Circa (UK) and Astralwerks (US). Following a mass of a speculation that Fluke were releasing a new album, i'm afraid to say that 'Progressive History X' amounts to little more than a "Best Of..." compilation released by Circa to cash in on the use of Absurd in the title credits of the Tomb Raider movie, although the cover art (and hence album title) states that this is to celebrate 10 years of Fluke. Given that the singles from the Six Wheels album (and prior to this) are now well and truly deleated then this will serve good purpose for all those desperate to hear Flukes earlier material. The versions of Electric Guitar and Groovy Feeling are those that featured on the Six Wheels album, whilst Slid features here as its full version that has only previously featured on the vinyl 12" single. Overall this is a excellent compilation that successfully summerises Flukes impressive discography from begining to end, although for those already owning all the singles/albums this will offer nothing new.

12": Absurd - The Remixes
[YRTDJ131]
|
| Track Listing:
- Absurd - Marine Parade Mix
- Absurd - Wild Oscar Mix
- Absurd - Soul of Men Mix
|
Released 10/01 on Circa Records for promo use only. Additional remix and production on track 1 by Adam Freeland. No credits for tracks 2 & 3 so I assume these are Fluke. Any additional information on this would be appreciated. Fours years on from its original release and 'Absurd' has had a bit of revamp, due probably to the use of the original version in this years Tombraider movie. So, are these new remixes any good? The Marine Parade Mix by Adam Freeland is a gentle breaks and beats version, which works well and remains faithful to the original in terms of the deep electro sounds (and this is true of all three versions), whilst the Wild Oscar Mix jumps back on the throttle and engages full electro FX. The Soul of Men Mix is unusual in its choice of beat pattern and like the Wild Oscar Mix is upbeat - difficult to describe this one - bigbeat maybe. Whilst its good to hear new(ish) Fluke material after such a long quiet spell, I think its fair to say that 'Absurd' was never broken and most certainly didn't need fixing - proved indeed by its excellent use in the opening credits of the Tombraider movie. I'm unsure if this is going to get an official release or whether its just doing the rounds as a DJ promo.

12": Slap It - The Return
[APPA#001]
|
| Track Listing:
- Slap It - Untitled No. 3 (10.19)
- Slap It - Dylan Rhymes Remix (7.52)
|
Released 7/01 on Appalooso Records. Track 1 recorded and produced by Fluke and Andy Grey. Written by Bryant/Fugler. Published by V2 Music. Mastered by John Dent @ LOUD mastering. Remix and additional production on track 2 by Dylan Rhymes @ Rhythm Design Studios. Both mixes are excellent slices of very deep rolling progressive trance, differing only subtly and are a complete break from the sound of the last Fluke productions. Thanks to Jesse Keller for the additional information and to Steve Benedict for the cover art.
An edited and slightly updated version of 'Slap it' also features on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack under the new name of 'Zion'.

Released 9/02 on EMI. What does one do when you've just released a "best off..." album? Thats right, you release another one a year later with a couple of extra discs. 'Progressive History XXX' covers the entire history of Fluke, with disc 1 featuring many of their rare tracks that were only released as white labels and on their early albums 'The Techno Rose of Blightly' and 'Out'. Disc 2 is a summary of their albums 'Six Wheels on my Wagon', 'Oto' and 'Risotto', whilst disc 3 is a collection of remixes from the various singles over the years. A definite must for any Fluke fan who's missing any of their back catalogue.

370TP 12P1:
- Pulse - Original Mix (8.21)

- Pulsed (8.01)

Released 10/02 on One Little Indian as 2 x 12". Fluke's first outing on One Little Indian is a throbbing techno edged number featuring Fuglers signatory spoken vocals. This is the toughest / hardest track i've heard Fluke produce to date and, if this is a sign of things to come, indicates a slight change in direction. Trisco and Paris & Healy provide a couple of quality mixes that stay faithful to the original version, but its the superb 'Pulsed', a driving tough trancer, that emphatically steals the show. Thanks to Julian Nuggent for the promotional copy of this vinyl.

 | Track Listing:
- Hang Tough - Original Mix (8.01)
- Hang Tough - Remix (8.36)

Released 3/03 on One Little Indian. After the aggressive sound of ‘Pulse’ it’s time for some more relaxed music, and boy does Fluke do an excellent job! This is a perfect tune to get ‘into the groove’! This time Fugler actually sings instead of doing his spoken vocal-style, and when you hear it for the first time, you undoubtly think of the ‘Six Wheels…’ era! This track has all the trademarks that Fluke are (in)famous for; a rolling bass, a pounding 4/4 beat, excellent sweeps, echoed guitars and on top of it, Fugler’s vocals. What more could you possibly want? On the b-side we get treated to the remix, which is even better (and richer sounding) than the original version! The track starts with a slightly filtered beat, reversed percussion and cut up echoed vocals. Then the main beat kicks in and all hell breaks loose! The bassline reminded me of a stripped version of the familiar sounding ‘Syntax: Pray’ bassline. When they kick in the synths and vocoder it even looks more like we are time-warped back into the ‘Six Wheels…’ era (and that’s a good thing)! All with all: two excellent slices of what might become one of the most promising records of 2003!!! Thanks to Jesse Keller for this information and review.

Released 11th August 2003 on One Little Indian. Turn back the clocks to 1999. It was time for change. Mike Tournier opted to leave Fluke in order to work on other projects, leaving Jon Fugler and Mike Bryant to continue with the band and the new album. The first incarnation of 'Puppy' appeared in 2001, then under the working title of the 'Xmas Demos'. This was a collection of demo tracks that were to form the basis of the next Fluke album on Virgin Records. However, it was to be that Fluke and Virgin Records part company. Forward wind to 2003 and a move to the One Little Indian label and 'Puppy' finally gets a release date. The album, which takes its name from the fifty foot high living sculpture of a highland terrier made entirely from flowers that stands outside the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, is a combination of the Xmas Demos plus a couple of the latest vinyl releases ('Another Kind of Blues' turns out to be a remix of 'Slap It / Zion') and is described by Fluke as “a sophisticated, multi-layered record, bursting with new ideas”.

The Marco Bellini Mix is the same as that which features in the CDS (with just a shorter title); this remix has been described as "spacey, groovy and ambient, being much more airy than the original mix. Awsome stuff". Thanks to Niels Peter Jørgensen for this information.
