CD Single: Kayama[SUN0062-8] | |||
Released 02/01 on Shiftmusic/Sunnyside Up. Written by Karl Jenkins. Produced and arranged by Equinox. Vocals by Erin Alden. This is a new dance version of 'Kayama', a track originally written by Adiemus (Karl Jenkins) and featured the powerful vocals of Mariam Stockley, although the vocals have been re-recorded for this version. All the mixes on this single pale against the quality 'Double AA Trance' remix released on the Adiemus single of the same name, but non the less its still worth playing. Obviously this has been inspired by the recent release of Proximus, the Mauro Picotto medley with Adiemus, so 0/10 for originality. This single offers a range of mixes, although they all stick to the same trance theme, with all mixes except the Progressive Maxi version featuring the Kayama vocal in the breakdown (although the Progressive Radio version does feature a breakdown with the kayama vocal - odd!). The Ethno Maxi Cut isn't anymore ethnic than the other mixes, differing only with an added distorted electronic sample of the words 'Kayama', and the 'Progressive Maxi' isn't progressive in style. All in all an average track, with the Italo Maxi Mix standing out as the better of the bunch. If i'd not heard the original Adiemus single with all the remixes I'd probably be singing praises about this CD, but it has to be said that these new mixes really don't compare. Saying that though, given that the original Adiemus CD single of Kayama is so rare these days then its probably worth getting hold of this.
