Eat Static
Eat Static is J Hinton, M Pepler and S Everitt. A splinter group from Ozric Tentacles (consisting essentially of the rhythm section), Eat Static specialises in an up-tempo, spacey trance-techno, with some Eastern elements. Two early '90's albums were released on the Planet Dog record label, 'Abduction' and 'Implant', along with the excellent 'Lost In Time' EP. They gained a huge following thanks to the MegaDog circuit, where they have played numerous live gigs. Further single releases included the Bony Incus EP and Epsylon EP, which saw Eat Static explore the realms of harder trance and drum and bass. Eat Static then moved to Mammoth Records and released their 'Science of the Gods' album in 1997, followed by a live album, 'B-World', which featured live and exclusive tracks. 2001 saw the release of the album 'Crash and Burn'.

Album: Abduction[BARKLP001 / BARK001CD]
This is a great album. Released in '93 on Planet Dog Records, there's some really rhythmetrical tracks here that aren't like a lot of Eat Statics earlier material, which tended to be a little plinky plonkey and squelchy!

CD: Eat Static - Implant[540 257-2]
Released 1994 on Ultimate Records. Rather standard bleepy trance with Cydonia and Dzhopa Dream standing out a bit. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

Single: Lost in Time EP[BARK002CD]
Released 1993 on Planet Dog Records. Gulf Breeze is probably one of Eat Statics finest tracks ever. The original mix of Gulf Breeze is on the Abduction album.

Single: Epsylon Ep[BARK009CDS]
Released 1995 on Planet Dog Records. The title track is opens all very atmospherically, typical Eat Static. The beat kicks in with a host of accompanying blips, squelches and other atypical Eat Static samples, but they fail to liven up this slow affair.....onto Dionysiac, which is more of a drum n bass kind of thing, with ethnic samples woven in....too clickerty clackerty for my liking. Peeow is yet more samples strung together, this time to a housey type beat. Boring. Its only Undulattice that saves this EP. A solid beat throughout, ethnic chants, flutey bits and the usual Eat Static squelchy bits. And it's a track that actually goes somewhere which is something the other tracks on this EP fail to do.

Single: Bony Incus | |||
Released in the UK early '96 on Planet Dog Records. The Original mix is a kicking track for Eat Static and just proves they can produce stuff that's not all bleeps and squelches. Its got a scorching psychedelic/hard-trance remix courtesy of the Man With No Name. Stomp on Eat Static!

Released 1997 on Planet Dog Records.

12": Contact[BARK033T]
Released 1998 on Planet Dog Records. Home straight in on the Jon the Dentist Remix which is an excellent hard-edged trancer.

Single: Contact (Remixes)[BARK033CDX]
Released 1998 on Planet Dog Records. Great stuff, straight-on Eat Static sound through all three
hard-hitting tracks. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
