CD: César Del Rio - Balearic Beats[KDS077CD]
Released 2001 on Kidesol Records. Written and produced by Cesar Fernandez
Salellas. Disc one of this rather hard-to-find double CD album is unmixed, whilst disc 2 is a continuous mix CD featuring the tracks from disc one (plus two extra bonus tracks unmixed). 'Balearic Beats' is, as the title suggests, an excursion through sun-tinged Latino house. But this isn't your typical run-of-the-mill, over-commercialised Ibiza dance rubbish. 'Balearic Beats' is a stylish and polished album aimed at the core of the global underground. Personal favourites include 'Siempre Juntos', the cheeky Latino vocal based, percussion fuelled 'Luna Latino', and the sublime instrumental 'Coming Soon Frequencies Part II'. Essential.

12": César Del Rio - Siempre Juntos[KDS074]
Released 5/01 on Kidesol Records. Written and produced by Cesar Fernandez Salellas. This is a superb Spanish trance-house cross-over - this opens with a couple of minutes of straight 4/4 beats with deep, rumbling tribal rhythms, seductive spoken lyrics (in Spanish) and disorientaing fx. The track then breaks, to which a delicious bass joins the jam, strumming away in the background, trumpet and keyboard add an air of jazz - its a real carnival atmosphere. Fantastic. The ambient mix is a short spacey, beatless affair, comprising mainly of the spoken vocals, percussion and fx. 'Cabrona' delves into tech-house territory - its a harsher, harder and deeper feel compared to 'Siempre Juntos' and no doubt will work well on suitable dancefloors - personally i'll stick to 'Siempre Juntos'.

12": César Del Rio - Géminis[KDS103]
Released 5/03 on Kidesol Records. Written by César del Rio and Ignacio Serrano. Produced by Kiko Vinilo. The original version of 'Geminis' is a real fun slice of brassy, funky house. Sci-fi spoken samples refering to "shields depleated", "core at critical temperature" and "initiating eject sequence" are slightly unusual - one for the train spotters - although the style of female computer voice used fits perfectly with the track. The remix is a stripped down techy, minimalistic and progressive version. Personally i'm sticking with the original.
