Banda Sonora

CD Single / 12": Banda Sonora - Guitarra G[DFECT36CDS / DFECT36A / DFECT36B]
Released 9/01 on Defected Records as CD single and 2 x 12". Written by Elms, Ashford and Simpson. Produced by Gerald Elms. Additional remix and production on track 2 (CD) by Norman Feller, on track 3 (CD) by Steve Miller and on track 1 & 2 (vinyl) by Warren Clarke. Defected Records come up trumps with this quality 4/4 Spanish guitar number, although a little late in the year to call it a summer anthem. Best of the bunch are the G Club Original Mix and Terry Lee Brown Junior Mix, whilst the Afterlife Remix is a welcome additional chill out version. Its worth noting that the CD version of the G Club Original Mix rather annoyingly fades out at the end, whilst the vinyl version plays out to beats.

12": Banda Sonora - Guitarra G[HUSSY005]
Released 2001 on Hussel Recordings (Australia). Written by Elms, Ashford and Simpson. Produced by Gerald Elms. Additional remix and production by Declan Lee and Antonio Gambale. The Work Institute Remix follows the same formula as the G Club Original Mix, although this is a much deeper groove, sounding very bassy and dubby. The Work Institutes Tangent Mix is a more mellow affair, stripping away the Spanish guitar and leaving essentially just the 4/4 beat, some percussion and soothing electronica. Nice.
CDS/12": G Club presents Banda Sonora - Pressure Cooker[DFTD060CDS / DFTD060 / DFTD060R]
Released 10/02 on Defected Records as CDS and 2 x 12". Produced and mixed by Gerald Elms for G-Club Productions. Additional remix and production on track 3 (CDS) & tracks 2 & 3 (12": DFTD060) by ATFC and Warren Clarke with saxual energy from Jamie Anderson. A year on from 'Guitarra G' and Banda Sonora return with yet another cracking tune, this time around based around a pressure cooker. Ok, so this may seem like a little weird topic to base a global dance track around, but listen carefully to the spoken vocals and all becomes clear. Add in the clever use of steam sound effects in the break down and subsequent build-up and you'll be wondering why you ever questioned the title in the first place. The best of the bunch is the Guitarra G Remix, another Spanish guitar led, 4/4 tropical beauty. The G-Club Pressure Mix is of the same ilk as the Guitarra G Remix but without the Spanish guitar, whilst the Lab Rats opt for a funky house groove, adding in some really mad sax, courtesy of Jamie Anderson - at one point Mr Anderson appears to go off on one which, no doubt, will raise eyebrows. On the vinyl the The Lab Rats Dub drop the sax, leaving the track as a percussion based deep house groove, whilst the G-Club 'Release the Pressure' Dub strips the track right down to its tribal-bare essentials. An all-round essential second excursion from Banda Sonora.
