Backyard Dog
Backyard Dog are the rough ragga, urban dance act Anif (ex-of Chapter & The Verse) and Lloyd. Their name evolved from an argument between the duo when Anif kicked Lloyd out of the studio. Lloyd wanted to get in and kept saying 'You can't treat me like that, you're treating me like a backyard dog'. They describe themselves as "Ragga mixed with punk mixed with French movie sound drops. The ragga is rough; Lloyd comes with a vocal style called the Lingua - he just goes wherever he wants to go". Their debut album 'All in a Day' features collaborations
with a variety of people including the late Kirsty MacColl, Steve Hillage, the Orb's Alex Paterson, the Beloved and Jeremy Healy's Easy Posse.

Released 2001 on Warner Music UK. Licenced from Mud Mud. Written by Arinola (sp?) and Manley. Produced by Parrot and Robin and engineered by Phil Jones. Track 2 remixed by Rossman and Pipes. The debut single from Backyard Dog is one hell of a tune, fusing big beat with ragga lyrics and that unmistakable, irresistible, crazy vocal riff. The radio edit (the full version, I assume, is found on their debut album 'In a Day') is the best of the bunch, although suffers from a harsh fade out at the end. This was used in the UK 2002 Coca Cola TV advert for the World Cup. The other two mixes just don't compare. Note that the single has been re-released with an "enhanced" version of Baddest Ruffest.
