Ayla
Ayla are the combined talents of the German duo DJ Tandu and DJ Taucher. Apparently the name Ayla is Turkish and is inspired by a girl who was in the studio at the time of the first production. DJ Tandu is also related to other projects including Montoya (Underwater), Elastique Culture (La Musique), Tarot (Chariot) and Intrance (Te Quierro). Remixes include DJ Sakin (Protect Your Mind), In-Mood (Deeper Than Deep) and Marino Stephano (Eternal Rhapsody).

Released in '97 on Maddog/Intercord GmbH. Licensed from Unsubmissive Records. Music by Ingo Kunzi. Lyrics by Ingo Kunzi, Allan Michie and Alex Kilb. Track 4 written by Ingo Kuzi and remixed by DJ Taucher. All tracks produced by DJ Tandu, except track 4. This first single by Ayla is a little on the weak side, with three vocal based tracks plus the first airing of the track 'Ayla'.

12": Ayla / Ayla Remix[12AD 023 / 12AD028]
Released in '98 on Additive Records in the UK. The Original DJ Taucher Mix fades into insignificance when compared to the stunning Mo and Skinny Hole in One Mix that grabbed my attention; after an ambient intro this breaks into a medium paced uplifting trancer. On the remix 12" the Space Brothers Meet Sacha Collision Remix is equally as good, although this falls more into the realms of progressive house. Quality tunes from Ayla. Apparently Kosmonova also did a remix of this track in 1997, which was pretty big in clubland in Germany.

CD Single: Ayla Part II[INT 8 85167 2]
Released in '98 on Unsubmissive Records/Maddog/Blow Up. Written and composed by Ingo Kunzi, Ralph Armand Beck and Torsten Stenzel. Produced by DJ Tandu, DJ Taucher and Torsten Stenzel. Three superb mixes on this CD single.

CD Single / 12": Liebe[INT M123242 / USM-018-6R]
Re-released in '99 on Unsubmissive Records. Composed by Cosmic Baby and produced by DJ Tandu. This is a superb tune that has all the hallmarks of a Cosmic Baby track. The CD single features the better mixes plus the bonus track 'Sunday'. The 12" features remixes; track one remixed by Andre Tanneberger, two by Marco Zaffarano and Jurgen Kreschl, and three by Cyrus Sadeghi-Wafa and Guido Gronwald. All three remixes are along the same line, i.e. uplifting trance, although its the ATB mix that stands out as the better mix. Apparently DJ Tandu used the original Cosmic Baby track as a background melody on his telephone answering machine.

Released 4/99 on Unsubmissive Records/Intercord. I've not actually got hold of this album yet - its proving very difficult to get hold of in the UK.

12": Angelfalls[USM-031-6 / 0106865UNS]
Released 10/99 on Unsubmissive Records (Germany). Written and composed by Ingo Kunzi, produced by DJ Tandu. Another superb trancer from Ayla. The three main mixes that feature on the 12" are all uplifting slices of trance that actually don't vary that much. The Particular Beach mix is an ambient version of the track, featuring what is effectively the intro to the Elemental Force and Waterfall mixes.

12": Orion vs Ayla - Eternity[KONTOR131]
Released 8/01 on Kontor Records. Written and produced by Darren Tate. Vocals by Sarah-J. Additional remix and production on track 1 by DJ Tandu and on track 3 by Gizeh. When it isn't broken there is certainly no reason that one can give for attempting to fix it, as in the case of Ayla attempting to remix 'Eternity'. In all fairness its a good remix, but given that Darren Tates original version is a work of art, i'd say that it was best left alone. If you've not heard the Darren Tates version, which was first released on Incentive Records under the artist title 'Orion' (who is Darren Tate), it's an absolute belter of an uplifting trance anthem and an essential tune to your collection.

12": Liebe.03[USM65] | |||
Released 2003 on Unsubmissive Records. 'Liebe' is undoubtably the best tune that Ayla have produced to date, hence after four years it's long overdue for some new remixes. Thankfully, both of these new remixes are original and fresh sounding, providing more that a predictable re-run of the original trance mixes. The Ultimate Treat Rmx completely re-works the original tune into a stomping electro / buzz version, whilst the
Uplifting Mix sticks to the trance formula, although is far more subtle than its predecessors with a smooth progressive edge to the first half of the track before breaking into the main chorus of the anthem. Both of these new remixes have more depth than the original trance mixes and hence will no doubt appeal to other dance floors other than your standard trance floor.

CDS: Ayla - Liebe.03[9811185]
Released 2003 on Zeitgeist. Written and Composed by Cosmic
Baby. Produced by DJ Tandu. Track 1, 2 and 4 produced by DJ Tandu. Track
5 remixed by Andre Tannenberger. Track 3 remixed by Carten 'Seikos'
Albat. The Seikos Remix is quite good as well, and here's a chance
to get the original Club and ATB remixes from the
hard-to-find original release. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.
