12": Axe Corner - Tortuga[VA12] | |||
Released 2003 on VA Recordings. Licenced from Many Musicali SRL 1991. Written and produced by A. Neri, A. Dodici, M. Baroni and P. Pieretti. 'Tortuga' was an early 90's slice of progressive house - apparently a classic in its day, although i've not heard the original version. Forward wind a decade and VA Recordings have dusted off 'Tortuga' and given it a bit of a makeover. The four remixes presented here on two vinyls (that have the same catalogue number) vary significantly in style, ranging from Slyus's industrial tech-house remix to acid tribal trance from Dr Kucho, progressive trance from James Doman to
an old skool mash up of big bassline and Raggae style vocals from Philter. This kind of variation of remixes is a complete rarity these days and makes this double 12" an essential purchase. Whilst i'm not overly keen on the Slyus Remix, its a well produced remix and will appeal to tech-house DJs. Personally its the Philter Remix that stands out as the best of the bunch, although you are just as likely to hear me playing the James Doman Mix or Dr Kucho Remix pending on the style of set i'm playing.
