Anjunabeats

Anjunabeats was established in the summer of 1999 by Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamäki. The “Anjuna Boys” met at university having already begun to make a name for themselves independently as record producers. Two heads seemed better than one, so they decided to team up and establish a label for releasing their uplifting and progressive trance music. 'Anjunabeats Volume One' was their debut release.

Teaming up with fellow producer Tony McGuinness to form Above & Beyond, they remixed Chakra “Home” for WEA. This was the lead mix and hit the number 1 spot in the UK club chart, causing big reactions on the nation’s dancefloors.

As a result, the remix requests rolled in. Above & Beyond have since produced remixes for artists Adamski, Dario G, Armin, Aurora and most recently Madonna. Madonna liked the Above & Beyond mix of "What it Feels Like For a Girl" so much that she decided to use it instead of the radio mix for the video - a groundbreaking decision from a groundbreaking artist that has shocked the industry and challenged the rules.

12": Anjunabeats - Volume One

[ANJ003]
Anjunabeats Volume One

Track Listing:

  1. Volume One - Above & Beyond Remix
  2. Volume One - Free State vs Dirt Devils Remix
  3. Volume One - Anjuna Deep Remix
  4. Volume One - Original Mix

Released 3/01 on Anjunabeats (a division of Involved Productions). Written and produced by J. Grant and P. Siljamäki. Volume One offers an excellent range of remixes of this unmissable trancer. The Above & Beyond Remix comes up trumps, tweaking the Original Mix in all the right places and delivering an almighty peak-time anthem - essential.

12": Free State - Release

[ANJ-004]
Free State - Release

Track Listing:

  1. Release - Original Mix
  2. Release - Dirt Devils Rumpus Dub

Promo release 2001 on Anjunabeats. Written and produced by Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamäki. The Original Mix is an excellent smooth, vocal-trancer that will work well on more commercial dance floors, whilst the Dirt Devils give this the deep and twisted makeover, chopping and filtering what they keep of the vocals and producing a generally tougher, more underground remix. Two quality cuts for very different dance floors.

12": Free State - Different Ways

[NEG03]
Free State - Different Ways

Track Listing:

  1. Different Ways - Dirt Devils Remix
  2. Different Ways - Original Mix
  3. Different Ways - Mark Lawrence Remix

Released 6/02 on Negativa. Licenced from Anjunabeats Records 2000. Written and produced by Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamäki. Head straight for the original version of this huge trance anthem by Free State, aka the Dirt Devils. Its a bouncy hands in the air affair that's guaranteed to rip up dancefloors, featuring a familiar spoken sample (although I can't quite put my finger on it) of "people react in different ways, its like fingerprints, everybody has different fingerprints". Mark Lawrence, aka JX4, smoothes out this anthem whilst the Dirt Devils Remix toughens up the beats giving the tune a hard edge. Three excellent mixes of a quality tune.

12": Tranquility Base - Razorfish

[ANJ-005]
Tranquility Base - Razorfish

Track Listing:

  1. Razorfish - Above & Beyond Progressive Mix
  2. Razorfish - Above & Beyond Bangin' Mix

Promo release 2001 on Anjunabeats. Written and produced by J. Grant, T. McGuinness and P. Silijamaki. Two quality versions of yet another trance floor anthem from Anjunabeats. Both of Above & Beyond's mixes hit the mark with this smooth, hypnotic melodic trancer. Essential.

12": Tranquility Base - Razorfish Remixes

[ANJ-007]
Tranquility Base - Razorfish Remixes

Track Listing:

  1. Razorfish - Above & Beyond Full On Mix
  2. Razorfish - Aspekt's Chillout Mix

Released 2002 on Anjunabeats. Written and produced by J. Grant, T. McGuinness and P. Siljamäki. One year on and further remixes of this trance anthem have been produced by Above and Beyond and Aspekt. The Above & Beyond Full On Mix is a subtle revamp of their Above & Beyond Bangin' Mix, keeping very much to their original formula, whilst Aspekt drops the tempo right down, producing a sublime, chilled remix perfect for those 6am moments.

12": Rollerball - Albinoni

[ANJ-012]
Rollerball - Albinoni

Track Listing:

  1. Albinoni - Above & Beyond Remix
  2. Albinoni - Super 8 Remix

Released 2003 on Anjunabeats. Written and produced by J. Grant, T. McGuinness and P. Siljamäki. Rollerball are the same trio who brought us Tranquility Base; this time round we have a dramatic trancer, incorporating a classical overlay by the Venetian composer Tomaso Albinoni.

12": Nitromethane - Time to Die

[ANJ-015]
Nitromethane - Time to Die

Track Listing:

  1. Time to Die - Seraque Remix
  2. Time to Die - Cosmicman Remix

Released 2003 on Anjunabeats. Written and produced by L. McGuinness and T. McGuinness. Additonal remix and production on track 1 by Seraque and on track 2 by Cosmicman. Both mixes of 'Time to Die' are pretty average, paling against the high quality of previous releases on the Anjunabeats label.

12": Rusch & Murray - Epic

[ANJ-017]
Rusch & Murray - Epic

Track Listing:

  1. Epic - Original Mix
  2. Epic - Above & Beyond Remix

Released 2003 on Anjunabeats. Written and produced by Christian Rusch and Greg Murray. Additonal remix and production on track 2 by Above & Beyond. The Original Mix is an average affair, failing to live up to the expectations implied by the title. However, over on the flip side Above and Beyond save the day with a fantastic remix, producing one of their almighty smooth, melodic trancers that equals, if not betters, any of their earlier productions. Essential.

12": Aalto - Rush

[VANDIT025]
Aalto - Rush

Track Listing:

  1. Rush - Original (7.09)
  2. Rush - Super 8 vs Orkidea (7.54)

Released 2003 on Vandit Records GmbH. Licenced from Anjunabeats Records. Written and produced by M.Eloranta & P.Siljamäki. Additional remix and production on track 2 by M.Eloranta & T. Hakanen. This is an identical release to that released on the Anjunbeats label earlier this year [ANJ011]. Aalto is the latest act to appear on the Anjunbeats label, being the combination of label founder Parvo Siljamäki (Above & Beyond, Tranquility Base, Free State etc) and Miika Eloranta (Super 8). They played live for us at Planet Angel earlier this year, treating us to a few of their latest tunes, including this one, 'Rush'. Both mixes are quality, with the Super 8 vs Orkidea being the better of the two. Super smooth, uplifting, melodic trance and high quality production that has become the hallmark of Anjunabeats. Superb.
