Album: Tranzania[FXCD 203] | |||
Released 1998 on Kirkelig Kulturverksted (Norway). Written and produced by Stephan Groth and Christian Grimshei, with musical contributions by Jon Erik Martinsen and Thomas Keiserud. The album Tranzania is the result of an encounter between two Norwegian techno musicians and representatives of a unique musical tradition from Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. Tarab is the name of a form of music which arose in Zanzibar, but which is popular also in Dar es Salaam and elsewhere on the coast of Tanzania and Kenya. Taken from the KKV web site This is an unusual album, featuring a range of dance orientated tracks, all featuring vocals from Tranzanian musicians. The obvious highlight here is the title track 'Tranzania (Hunting Left and Right)' which is a pounding trancer featuring fantastic tribal vocals - its a classic track that was played regularly at Whirl-Y-Gig during the late 90's. This album is worth tracking down for this track alone.
